At Tokyo Techno-frontier 2010 trade show (took place from July 21 to 23), Murata revealed a digital power supply module for LED lamps. These were developed for a Japan-based LED lighting manufacturer, Clear Sodick, but it is also considering selling the module to other companies.

Murata used its MLCC for the input and output capacitors of the power supply module. The MLCC can be incorporated in a straight tube-type LED lamp. Compared with an aluminum electrolytic capacitor, the MLCC can make a power supply module smaller and its life longer. It supports the voltages of AC100V and AC200V.

Dow Electronic Materials has announced a multi-phase plan to expand its production capacity for Trimethyl Gallium (TMG). And it will be located in Cheonan, approximately 85 km south of Seoul, Korea.

The plan includes adding significant TMG capacity in North Andover. And Dow Electronic Materials will build a new manufacturing plant in Korea, expected to begin operating in early 2011, to meet the long-term demand. Total multi-phase plan is expected to be 60 metric tons per year.

The Lighting Quotient showed its first LED architectural lighting fixture at the 2010 annual conference of the American Institute of Architects.

It will feature the latest Philips Lumileds LUXEON Rebel emitters with advanced Lumiramic phosphor technology. The latest generation of LUXEON Rebel LEDs provides crisp warm white light with greater color consistency and higher efficacy, enabling a new level in LED luminaire performance.

The concealed cove fixture, developed with the company's fraqtir optical technology, throws a clean, even and warm wash of white light in an asymmetric pattern that has not previously been possible to achieve with LEDs.

The promotion of LED lighting is a long journey for industry players – apart from LED indoor lighting fixtures, LED outdoor lighting provides the easiest entry into the market during its introductory phase. These LED outdoor lighting fixtures are applied in major public areas such as building exteriors, street lighting, ambience lighting, tunnel lighting, outdoor parking lot lighting, and gas stations. Demand for these LED lighting applications is placed by government institutions and commercial enterprises, which is one of the main focuses of LED manufacturers. Currently, the technological development of LED indoor lighting has reached maturity.
